Antique 1870's MID VICTORIAN 14k LILY OF VALLEY Onyx, Seed Pearl mourning brooch

This stunning mid-Victorian brooch is up for your consideration. It was made during the Grand Victorian era, likely in the 1870s, when onyx and pearls became widely represented in mourning jewelry.

Symbolism was a hallmark of Victorian jewelry, and this brooch is no exception. The seed pearls, delicately arranged, symbolize the tears shed for loved ones, while the lily of the valley represents a hopeful return to happiness.

Two beveled onyx rectangles set in 14K gold are featured. The pin tested at 14K. While unmarked, there are no obvious indications of gold plating or gold fill. It is in remarkable condition for its 150 years and has developed a lovely patina. All seed pearls are secure.

The C-clasp is in good working condition. It measures 2.25" X 3/8" and weighs approximately 8.8 grams. Please ask questions, and I will do my best to answer them accurately.
