Antique Victorian Braided Hair Pocket Watch Chain or Cord Mourning Jewelry

A very fine Victorian braided hair cord for a pocket watch. Comprised of braided, twisted, and woven hair set with gold plated caps and findings. A gold filled chain is suspended from the center box setting. In the Georgian and Victorian eras, woven hair art was used to memorialize a departed loved one or given as a keepsake memorial for a loved one in their absence. This watch chain clearly kept the memory of a loved on in an intimate proximity.

Simply a wonderful piece of mourning jewelry! It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition with a few stray hairs here & there, some very fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Small stone missing from center piece.
