Antique Victorian Mourning Gold Filled Double Hair Locket with purple Stone Photo

Absolutely exquisite antique, Victorian era, gold filled locket in the shape of a shield with incredible floral details surrounding a bezel set faceted purple glass stone. Laurel wreaths and forget-me-not flowers were often used symbolically in mourning jewelry and because of the excellent condition of this piece, these details are still crisp and beautiful. The locket is very large and opens to reveal two sides that have depth for inserting woven hair lock rememberences or photos.

Each side contains a thin plastic film that is in excellent condition. The locket opens and closes smoothly and features a small bale for hanging. Measuring 1 1/2" wide x 2 1/2" tall and 27 grams. The piece is overall in excellent condition and a very rare find.
