Big Antique Victorian Sterling Onyx Opal Flower Mourning Ring Handmade 1.25 Sz6. This gorgeous antique Victorian ring came to us in this box from N. Snellenburg & Co, Philadelphia, which we believe to be original to the piece. This establishment was founded in 1869, and this is definitely an OLD ring, possibly a mourning ring for someone who either passed away in October, or had an October birthday, as opal is October's birthstone. The ring is handmade, with a large oval smooth onyx secured by two square prongs on the sides, and an "arm" at the bottom which extends to the flower bouquet on the face of the onyx.

The flower is set with super fiery tiny opal cabochons. The ring is gorgeous, and I've not seen another like it. The mounting is sterling silver, but if you look at the underside, you can see that it's all handmade. It is hallmarked STERLING inside the band, with the crisp clear mark evidencing very little wear. This ring looks like it never came out of the box, although it's well over 100 years old.

The face measures 1 1/4" by 7/8". It weighs 8 grams, is a size 6, and is in mint antique condition.
