The back of the pendant has a removable casing and inside appears to be a very old folded up piece of paper. I did not disturb this because it appears very old and fragile. This casing does not test gold. The original photo backing paper is present with the numbers 865 hand written in pencil.
I'm not sure if it means 1865. That date would correspond to the time era of the piece. There is an 18" chain necklace attached that is marked "Automade 1/20 12K GF. This is truly a precious piece.
Mourning Jewelry became popular after King Albert passed away. I will be posting several of the pieces in the coming weeks, so check out my other listings. This is truly a one of a kind heirloom to add to your collection. Pendant is not marked; the front casing acid tests between 14-17K. The back photo casing does not test gold. The delicate setting around the seed pearls and glass bezel appears to be a different tone and may not be gold.
