For sale is a Victorian mourning necklace. It is in excellent to pristine vintage condition.
There are no breaks in the necklace with only minimal age appropriate fraying. The charm hanging from the necklace shows a charming hand etched farm scene on one side, on the other side it is engraved with a name I believe to be'Schnapp'. I suspect that this part of the necklace and possibly other parts are gold but it has not been tested. Above this charm are 3 stones that look like 1 small ruby with seed pearls on either side, that has not been tested. How in the world they made these, one can only wonder. They were usually gifted to someone after the loss of a husband, wife, sibling or child as a keepsake. In this case it appears that it was child as the picture inside the charm shows a pic of a little girl. Definitely an interesting tradition and a now lost art. Would be a beautiful addition for any collector to add to their collection.
